Lucknow Trip, June 2019

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India

Recently, I had the pleasure of immersing myself in the rich cultural tapestry of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, historically known as the Awadh region. This vibrant city is celebrated for its cultural heritage, delectable cuisine, and distinctive clothing. Like any city, Lucknow holds a treasure trove of fascinating facts and unique experiences.

Lucknow is synonymous with its sweet language and the exquisite artistry of Chikankari. It's essential to distinguish this intricate cloth design from its phonetic cousin, Chicken. Originating from the iconic Rumi Darwaza near Bara Imambara, Chikankari and Lucknavi Zardozi stand out as two sophisticated and delicate forms of Indian embroidery.

One of the highlights of my visit was indulging in the diverse street food offerings near Hazratganj. Evening strolls through this area reveal a culinary wonderland with numerous recommended delicacies. From Motimahal's Kulfi to mouth-watering biryanis, kebabs, and chaats, Lucknow's gastronomic delights are a treat for the taste buds.

For those planning a visit to Lucknow, an evening exploration of Hazratganj is a must. The lively atmosphere is complemented by an array of excellent restaurants offering a taste of Lucknow's culinary prowess. The bustling streets come alive, providing an authentic experience for food enthusiasts.

Capturing the essence of my journey, the attached photostream features stills from this memorable visit. Each image encapsulates the charm and vibrancy that define Lucknow, offering a visual feast for those eager to explore this cultural gem.

Hazratganj has many good restaurants, I liked Moti Mahal restaurant for Kulfi and Aaloo Tikki. Evening is the best time to visit this area.

Lucknow is also called "City of Nawabs" because in the 18th century this city was ruled by Nawabs.
